Men of the Harvest Ministries, Inc.
Men of the Harvest came from very humble beginnings and continues to operate on an extremely personal level. The charitable organization enjoys an enduring reputation throughout the community as an effective, hands-on expression of the love of God.
Reaching out to meet practical needs, what is now a formal organization began quite unassumingly more than two decades ago. Judge Robert Alexander, his wife, Gerry, and two friends felt impressed to visit the homes of those they attended church with and help bear their burdens through prayer. Alexander, who was a greeter at his fellowship, was moved by the heavy hearts he saw each Sunday and wanted to do something. He approached the pastor, and with his blessing obtained a membership list to guide their efforts.
They were welcomed with open arms and it was not long before people began to open their hearts as well. Sharing deeply personal struggles with the Christian Crashers, as they became known for showing up uninvited, most were surprisingly forthcoming. Judge Alexander would refer the spiritual concerns of his fellow congregants to their church’s leadership, and then the “Crashers” would pool their money to see if they could find ways to meet the practical needs they had learned about and prayed for. And so began what would become Men of the Harvest.
Since that time, word has spread and so has the love of God, as Men of the Harvest continues to provide food, cars, appliances, and other day to day necessities for disadvantaged people. Ironically, Judge Alexander never set out to establish a ministry, but to minister. “I’d rather be a Christian message than preach one,” he explains, I’d rather live the Christian life than talk about it.”
The group also holds a highly popular conference each year that stretches from morning until evening. The gathering includes high impact speakers, worship groups, and provides breakfast and lunch for attendants.
